A dog “ACL brace” is a knee/stifle device used in some management plans for cranial cruciate ligament (CCL/CrCL) disease. The term ACL is familiar to people, but the canine ligament is generally called the CCL. Confirm the diagnosis before shopping; a hip, hock, paw, spinal, or neurologic problem can also appear as rear-leg limping.

These braces use published sizes and adjustable materials. Tailwind's product page listed left/right orientation, a broad upper-thigh size range, and base configurations starting around $49.95 on July 26, 2026. Optional harness and hinge-splint configurations increased the price.

Structured standard-size

Best question: Who will perform or verify the cast, initial fit, break-in, gait, skin response, and later adjustments?
What evidence says—and does not say
VCA Animal Hospitals says a properly designed and fitted stifle brace can limit some abnormal motion and improve lameness, but current studies do not show braces matching surgery. Bracing plus rehabilitation may be considered for dogs that are not good candidates for surgical stabilization.
Canine Arthritis Resources & Education takes a stricter position: surgery is the gold-standard first-line recommendation, a brace should not be described as replacing CCL function, and custom orthoses require experienced fitting. The page cites nearly 40% skin-related complications in the first three months in one custom-orthosis study.
These sources support a cautious conclusion: a brace can be part of selected plans, but the product page cannot decide the case.
Fit failures to plan for
- Brace slides or rotates away from the stifle.
- Hinge or splint does not align with knee motion.
- Groin or opposite leg is rubbed by straps.

Do not confuse a hock wrap with an ACL brace
