# Dog knee brace guide: three proofs it is really a knee brace
A true dog knee brace supports the stifle joint high on the rear leg. Before buying, verify that the product spans the knee, uses knee/thigh measurements, and has a plan to prevent migration. A small wrap around the lower hock is not an ACL/CCL brace, even when a marketplace title uses those words.

Proof 1: the product image centers on the knee/stifle
The canine knee sits higher than many shoppers expect, between the thigh and lower leg. The hock is the lower angled joint above the paw.

If the diagnosis is a CCL tear
Dogs are usually described as having a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL/CrCL) injury; “ACL” is common shopper terminology. A knee brace decision should follow a veterinary exam because meniscal injury, instability, body size, activity, arthritis, and surgical candidacy affect the plan.
